GET SHACKED: The Online Surfing Game

EVENTS START JANUARY 16, 2006. BETA TESTING THRU MARCH 1, 2006.

This game is purely text based and results are compiled using a special computer algorithm that takes into account each surfer's skills and the conditions of each event. The simulation is NOT just a random throw of the dice.

Users can sign-up from the home page and then create their player as they wish. Only one player is allowed per user at a time.

A valid email address is required to participate and win prizes. If a user does not validate their email within two days of signing-up, then their player will be deactivated. Deactivated players can be activated by requesting a new activation message.

Every day, users can login and check their player's results and rankings, train their player and allocate new skills. Results of events are computed overnight.

Each season lasts one week. There are five events in a season and the results from events are available Monday Thru Friday according to the following schedule:

  • 7:00 AM PST: Amateur Qualifying Results
  • 9:00 AM PST: Quarter Final Results
  • 11:00 AM PST: Semi-Final Results
  • 1:00 PM PST: Final Results

No events are run on weekends, but users can still train on those days.

Each player's career lasts 26 seasons (6 months of playing time). Once players have participated in 26 seasons, they will automatically retire. At this time, users can create a new player and start over again.

Events are broken up into 4 parts:

  1. Amateur Qualifying: Only amateur players compete in this round and the top 20% of amateur players after this round will advance.
  2. Quarter Finals : The top 50% of this round advance to the semi-finals.
  3. Semi Finals: The top 20 entrants advance to the finals.
  4. Finals: The last stage of each event where the final top 20 order is determined.

If you have chosen to Go Pro! with your player, you are automatically entered in the Quarter Finals of each event.

After each event, ranking points are assigned to each player based on their final placement.

Rankings are determined by sorting the players according to their total ranking points. Rankings are broken down into Overall Rankings and Amateur Rankings.

Each player starts out with amateur status and the same amount of skill points available to allocate.

There are two ways to become a professional:

  1. Finish #1 in the final Amateur Standings for the season
  2. Elect to "Go Pro!" on your own for a small fee.

If you "Go Pro!" on your own, then your player will receive the following benefits:

  • Automatic 100 point skill increase that you can allocate however you wish.
  • Ability to reconfigure your player's skill setup whenever you want to.
  • Automatic entry into the Preliminary Round of each event with a 50% chance of advancing to the Semi Finals.

If you pay to Go Pro! then you are purchasing an upgrade for you player valid for the duration of the player's career (26 weeks) Therefore, the sooner you Go Pro! the more seasons your player will benefit.

It costs $9.95 to Go Pro! and you can elect to do so from your player's home page.

Players who achieve pro status through amateur qualifying will receive the following benefits:

  • Automatic 50 point skill increase.
  • Ability to reconfigure your player's skill setup at any time.
  • Automatic Entry into the Preliminary Round of each event with a 50% chance of advancing to the Semi Finals.

Each player has a skill set of varying skills that can be set from 0 to 100, with 100 being the best.

Player skills can be adjusted through daily training, available only once per day per player. Training sessions result in 1-3 skill points being added to your skill total, which you can allocate at will to your player's skill set.

Unless you are a professional, your skills can only be readjusted once per career.

Prizes, if any, will be announced prior to the start of a new season. In order to win a prize, you must be reachable by the email you provided on sign-up.

This game relies on technology that can potentially be affected by power outages, server crashes, or code problems. In the event that the game is disrupted for any period of time, we will do our best to repair the problem in a timely manner.

Refunds are not given on Go Pro! fees under any circumstances. The fees colleced from users that elect to Go Pro! are used to cover fixed costs associated with running the website and are also applied to future development.

To reiterate, Go Pro! fees activate professional status for your player at whatever point in the player's career you decide to turn professional and lasts until that player's 26 week career is completed. Go Pro! fees cannot be applied to new players you create after an old player retires.

In the event that a season is not completed due to technical difficulties on the site, your player's career will be extended the amount of time that was lost.
